The Trenches Are Eating Their Own

An opinion on the extractive culture of the trenches—and why Misprints aims to give people reasons to stay.

Web3 promised a new era of ownership, opportunity, and community.

Somewhere along the way, much of the trenches became an extraction machine.

Launch. Hype. Pump. Dump. Repeat.

The numbers tell a troubling story.

According to Bitquery’s October 2026 research, approximately 11.5 million new tokens traded on Solana in just 11 months. Only about 1 in 58 Pump.fun launches graduated to a full trading pool.

In a separate analysis of ten sampled launch weeks, Bitquery found that 74% of ordinary buying wallets lost SOL over the following two weeks, after fees.

And a 2026 USENIX security study found evidence of artificial growth strategies in 82.89% of the studied memecoins that gained more than 100%.

These figures don't describe every project or trader. But they expose an environment increasingly optimized for capturing attention, generating transactions, and extracting liquidity rather than creating lasting value.

The consequences extend beyond financial losses.

Every bad experience damages trust. Every newcomer who gets burned is another person who may never explore what Web3 could actually become.

We don't believe speculation is the enemy. We believe extraction without meaningful participation is.

That's part of why we're building Misprints.

Our goal is to introduce people to Web3 through something more approachable than a trading chart: characters, storytelling, creativity, and a community where participation matters.

We want to make ownership understandable, explain token mechanics and risks transparently, and build opportunities for people to contribute, connect, and participate both on-chain and in the real world.

We won't promise financial returns. We want to build something people have a reason to care about beyond the next candle.

Web3 doesn't need another revolving door of exit liquidity. It needs reasons for people to stay.

Misprints aims to help onboard the next generation of Web3 users the right way.

You weren't supposed to keep these. We think that's exactly why they're worth keeping.
